Mobile Wi-Fi may not be as safe as it looks. It poses a serious threat to the privacy and security of person. The mobile Wi-Fi may be used to report the locations of users, their family and friends. This is dangerous potentially and will continue to happen until changes are made in the structures of mobile Wi-Fi. This was warned by Ann Cavoukian who is Ontario's Information and Privacy Commissioner.
According to her in future, because of mobile Wi-Fi, devices will be able to relay and send the addresses of the users, their friends, families and co workers and make them the unknowing informant.
The importance of privacy should be learned since the Apple iPhone controversy. Moreover, when users see that their privacy is being compromised because of mobile Wi-Fi they feel violated. Companies should be more transparent and not collect users' data like this.

The warning has been issued to businesses that provide free internet access through wifi to their customers, by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), a non profit small-business association.
The NFIB has asked the businesses to take steps to avoid allegations of online piracy. Internet providers and record labels, movie studios etc. have made a deal, whereby, the internet providers will issue warnings to customers whose accounts would be involved in alleged use of stealing content online.
The NFIB's Oregon state director said that, some people use the wifi connection of their neighbour or a coffee shop or a hotel etc. instead of using their home internet, to pirate music. This can prove to be a major risk for the businesses providing free wifi.
The businesses that offer wifi can discourage abuse by preventing people who are not customers from using their wifi connection, by setting up a password, providing it to only the customers and regularly changing it. Businesses can also consider blocking certain websites that may be unsuitable or risky.
In this age of smartphones and tablets, the businesses can attract new customers and keep the existing ones, by offering free wifi, but they have to take the necessary precautions to prevent any legal problems.
