Clearwire Expands WiMax Network

The expansion of 4G WiMax based wireless broadband network has been announced by Clearwire along with its partners Comcast and Sprint. This expansion of WiMax coverage will primarily be in the greater Puget Sound area.
The WiMax will now be available to almost 3 million people living in the areas of Washington State communities. This is good progress for the company which has managed to provide WiMax access to almost 240,000 people in various communities around the country.
Comcast, which has a minority stake in Clearwire has made an agreement to offer the WiMax 4G service as Xfinity Internet 2go wireless broadband. Senior Vice President of Comcast's Washington Region, Len Rozek, stated that the company endeavours to provide its services wherever the customers need it.
Clearwire boasts of a WiMax network that is capable of giving 3-6 Megabits per second of download speed in mobile devices with some bursts of speed above 10Mbps. It is trying to enhance its customer base to 9.55 million subscribers by the end of 2011 from its current mark of 6.15 million.
